Twelve inches of round, the service plate of the pattern. It is laid as a charger under a soup or an appetiser course, cleared before the entree, and in steakhouse and chophouse service it goes out carrying the main itself.
At this diameter the rim alone is wide enough to take a sauce ladle or a bone dish set at the edge. It shares its twelve-inch width with the JS-612 dessert round, but that one is sunk into a deep well while this is a flat field, so the two read as different objects on a pass even though they shelve at the same footprint.
