A rimmed soup plate of nine inches with an inch and a half of total height, taking eight ounces to a sensible line. The shape is the old banquet standard: a broad flat border with a shallow well in the middle, so a consomme or a thin bisque spreads out and comes to eating temperature quickly instead of staying scalding in a deep crock.

Eight ounces is a starter portion rather than a main, and the wide border gives a server somewhere to hold the plate with a thumb clear of the liquid. It will also take a dressed salad or a dish of fruit in syrup. Ocean's OC-409 is the same nine by one and a half inch soup plate, so the profile is proven elsewhere in the catalogue.
