At 6-1/8 inches across and half an inch deep, this is the bread-and-butter plate: one roll, a pat of butter, and a knife laid across the rim without the handle hanging off. The shallow well is pressed rather than rimmed, which keeps crumbs from collecting in a groove and makes the wipe-down between covers quick.
It is the shallowest round Iris Blue makes, and that is the point. Set to the left of a cover this plate reads as a side piece and does not compete with the dinner round for space on a crowded two-top.
