The LE-409 is a fish plate: 9-1/8 inches long but just 4-7/8 wide, with a 1-1/4 inch wall. The elongated, narrow footprint is cut for a fillet, a sausage, a skewer or an asparagus service — one portion, not a shared dish.

Width is what settles what this piece is. At under five inches across it cannot carry a table’s worth of food, so it is a plate eaten from rather than a platter served from, however long it reads on paper. The 1-1/4 inch rise is there to contain a pan sauce. Cases hold twenty-four. White and brown chinaware, safe in a dishwasher and a microwave.
