The Hasami Porcelain Tall Bowl in Black is a blend of crushed Amakusa pottery stone and clay under a matte black glaze, left bare at the rim where the raw clay shows as a pale contrast. It is the deeper of the line's two bowl shapes, close to three inches at the middle size. Black is the finish that changes most with use, developing a patina from oils that gives parts of the glaze a faint metallic shine over time. Takuhiro Shinomoto designed it in Venice, California, and it is made in Hasami, Nagasaki, where porcelain has been produced for four centuries.
