The extra half inch of diameter over the 11-1/2 inch bowl buys noticeably more flat area at the bottom of the well, which is what a kitchen wants when a dish is built in layers rather than heaped: a seared fillet over vegetables, a grain bowl with components kept apart, a wide shallow stew.
The low 1-3/4 inch wall and the wide rim make it read as a plate with a lip, so it works as a presentation piece for a composed course as well as for anything saucy. It shares a rim profile with the other rounds in the pattern, so a mixed stack on a shelf still sits level. Twelve arrive per carton.
