Seven and a quarter inches is salad and dessert territory: wide enough for a dressed side salad or a plated slice of cake, narrow enough that two sit on a tray beside an entree plate. The MM-7 carries a 3/4" rise, a little deeper than a flat side plate, which keeps a vinaigrette from running to the edge.

In a full cover it goes above and left of the dinner plate; on a buffet it is the plate guests pick up at the salad station.
