JP-0002 trades the usual round sauce dish for a wave-cut rim: an oblong 4-1/8" by 3" shape that reads as a deliberate accent rather than a utility piece. The added length leaves room for a dipping sauce plus a wedge of lemon or a pinch of pickled ginger, which a small round dish cannot manage.
Kitchens running tempura, gyoza or katsu service keep these in quantity at the pass, and the six-dozen case supports that. The wave profile is shared with only one other piece in the Japanese line, the 8-1/2" rectangular plate JP-1609, so ordering both gives a table two scales of the same detail.
