Dimensionally the twin of the BA-404 rice bowl, BA-405 is specified for miso: 4-1/2 inches across, 10 ounces, with a profile meant to be lifted and drunk from rather than spooned. Rooms tend to buy the pair together, one for rice and one for soup, in matching quantities.
It holds six ounces less than the BA-505 soup bowl and sits an inch smaller across, which is the difference between a miso course and a soup ordered on its own. Melamine stays cool enough at the rim to lift straight after a hot pour, which a comparable porcelain bowl does not.
