Carved meat is the obvious use, laid in overlapping slices along the long axis with a garnish at one end. Caterers also run these for sandwich halves and for a composed cold plate. The proportion matters on a crowded table: an oval platter of this length drops into a gap a 13 inch round would never fit. Rolled edge chinaware in white, one dozen to the case, safe in the dishwasher and the microwave.
