🔄 What a Pivoting Jib Gives You

A fixed jib points where the carriage points. This one pivots through 35 degrees, which changes what you can reach without moving the machine.

  • Working over an obstruction. Angling the boom lets the hook clear a wall, a stack or a trench edge that a straight boom would foul.
  • Setting into a confined space. Where the machine cannot get square to the work, the pivot brings the hook onto the load instead.
  • Placing rather than dropping. Angle plus telescope together give fine control over where the load lands, which matters when it has to sit inside something.

Capacity is quoted at 12 feet fully extended. Read the chart for your actual position and angle before lifting.

📏 Which Pocket Size — Measure Your Tines

The only difference between the two models is fork pocket thickness. The MIJ-A accepts tines up to 2-1/2" thick; the MIJ-A-LP up to 3-1/2". Both take tines up to 7-1/2" wide.

The larger pocket adds 206 lbs — 851 lbs against 645 — because the frame is built to suit the heavier tines it fits. Measure your tine section and order to match rather than assuming the larger will simply fit better; a pocket oversized for the tine leaves the jib sitting loose.

📐 You Will Need a Down-Rated Load Chart

A jib moves the load out in front of the carriage, which changes what the machine can safely lift. When any attachment is added to a forklift or telehandler, the machine manufacturer's down-rated capacity chart for that combination is what governs.

The jib's chart covers the jib alone. Your machine may be the more restrictive of the two at a given height and reach, and the lower limit always applies. Capacity also falls as a telehandler boom extends — work from the figures at the reach you will actually use.

⚠ Operating Rules — From Haugen's Manual

  • Vertical lifting only. Never pull or drag a load with a jib.
  • Disable the carriage's hydraulic tilt and swing functions before lifting, and position the mount so the load sits centred on the machine.
  • Read the load chart for the position you are set to — not the one you used last time. Misreading the chart is how adjustable jibs get overloaded.
  • Safety pins installed and secured with the cotter pin. Optional safety chains are an addition to the pins, never a substitute.
  • Operator stays at the controls with the engine running while a load is on the jib.
  • Nobody within ten feet of the fall zone, and never any part of yourself under a suspended load. Hard hats and steel toe boots nearby.
  • Level, firm ground. Carry loads low and use tag lines to stop them swinging.
  • Never lift people. Personnel lifting requires a certified work platform.

Before every use: check the hook, latch and shackle; confirm the pins are in and secured; look for excessive wear and cracked or broken welds; check the lifting holes for elongation; and make sure the load chart decal is present and legible.

❓ Telescoping Forklift Jib FAQs

What does this forklift jib attachment do that a fixed boom cannot?

Angle the boom up to 35 degrees from vertical without moving the machine. That gets the hook over a wall, into a confined space, or onto a load the carriage cannot square up to. Combined with the telescope it gives fine control over where a load is set down.

Which model fits my forks?

Measure the tine thickness. Up to 2-1/2" takes the MIJ-A; up to 3-1/2" takes the MIJ-A-LP. Both accept tines to 7-1/2" wide.

Why is the large-pocket model so much heavier?

851 lbs against 645. The frame is built around the heavier tine section it accepts, and that steel adds weight. It comes off your machine's available capacity, so use the figure for the model you are actually ordering.

Does capacity change with the pivot angle?

The published 2,050 lbs is at 12 feet. Both extension and angle affect the geometry, so read the load chart for the position you are set to before every lift, and use the position indicators to confirm which line applies.

Do I need a down-rated load chart?

Yes. A jib puts the load in front of the carriage, so your machine manufacturer's down-rated chart for the combination governs, and the lower of the two limits applies.

Can it lift personnel?

No — material only, vertical lifting only. Use a certified work platform for people.
