📘 Overview

The Haugen telehandler truss jib (MTJ) is a truss boom attachment with a quick attach mount CNC machined to your specific telehandler make, model and year. Lengths run from 2 to 15 feet, and capacity varies sharply with length — from 10,000 lbs on the 2 ft model down to 2,000 lbs at 15 ft.

Short models carry weld-on hooks; the 12 and 15 ft come with a pintle hitch. Pricing covers Skytrak, new-style JLG, Cat, Ingersoll Rand and Gehl DynaTach mounts — other quick attach mounts may carry an additional charge.

📉 Capacity Falls Fast With Length — Read This Before Choosing

The spread across this range is larger than on any other Haugen jib. The 2 ft lifts 10,000 lbs; the 15 ft lifts 2,000 lbs. Same family, five times the capacity difference.

That makes length the most consequential choice you make here, and it is worth working backwards from the job:

  • 2 ft (10,000 lbs). Heavy picks just off the carriage — machinery, steel, precast. Nothing else in the range comes close.
  • 3 ft (5,000 lbs) and 4 ft (8,000 lbs). Note the 4 ft carries more than the 3 ft. The part number encodes it: MTJ 4-8 is four feet, eight thousand pounds.
  • 6 ft and 8 ft (2,250 lbs each). Same rating, so choose on reach.
  • 12 ft and 15 ft (2,000 lbs each). Truss-setting reach, and the two lengths that carry a pintle hitch.

🔩 Mount Fitment

Each MTJ is CNC machined for a specific telehandler carriage, so the make, model and year of your machine are needed with the order. Published pricing covers Skytrak, new-style JLG, Cat, Ingersoll Rand and Gehl DynaTach mounts. Other quick attach mounts are available and may carry an additional charge — including Manitou and some wide-mount carriages.

📐 You Will Need a Down-Rated Load Chart

A jib moves the load out in front of the carriage, which changes what the machine can safely lift. When any attachment is added to a forklift or telehandler, the machine manufacturer's down-rated capacity chart for that combination is what governs.

The jib's chart covers the jib alone. Your machine may be the more restrictive of the two at a given height and reach, and the lower limit always applies. Capacity also falls as a telehandler boom extends — work from the figures at the reach you will actually use.

⚠ Operating Rules — From Haugen's Manual

  • Vertical lifting only. Never pull or drag a load with a jib.
  • Disable the carriage's hydraulic tilt and swing functions before lifting, and position the mount so the load sits centred on the machine.
  • Read the load chart for the position you are set to — not the one you used last time. Misreading the chart is how adjustable jibs get overloaded.
  • Safety pins installed and secured with the cotter pin. Optional safety chains are an addition to the pins, never a substitute.
  • Operator stays at the controls with the engine running while a load is on the jib.
  • Nobody within ten feet of the fall zone, and never any part of yourself under a suspended load. Hard hats and steel toe boots nearby.
  • Level, firm ground. Carry loads low and use tag lines to stop them swinging.
  • Never lift people. Personnel lifting requires a certified work platform.

Before every use: check the hook, latch and shackle; confirm the pins are in and secured; look for excessive wear and cracked or broken welds; check the lifting holes for elongation; and make sure the load chart decal is present and legible.

❓ Truss Boom FAQs

Which length should I order?

Start from the heaviest lift and how far out it has to go, because capacity changes enormously with length here. The 2 ft holds 10,000 lbs; the 15 ft holds 2,000. If the load is heavy and close, a short model does what no long boom can.

Why does the 4 ft hold more than the 3 ft?

They are differently rated builds rather than one design in two lengths. The MTJ 4-8 is rated 8,000 lbs and the MTJ 3 is rated 5,000 — the part number carries the rating, so read it rather than assuming shorter always means stronger.

Will it fit my telehandler?

The mount is machined for a specific carriage, so supply your make, model and year with the order. Skytrak, new-style JLG, Cat, Ingersoll Rand and Gehl DynaTach are covered by standard pricing. Other mounts including Manitou are available and may carry an additional charge.

What hook does it come with?

The 2 ft and 4 ft models are equipped with Shurlock swivel hooks. The short and mid lengths carry weld-on hooks. The 12 ft and 15 ft come with a pintle hitch as standard.

Is there a skid steer truss boom version?

This is the telehandler quick attach version, machined to your carriage. The fork slot MFTJ slides onto existing tines instead, at 12 and 15 feet. For skid steers, the MSTJ skid steer truss boom covers 6, 9 and 12 ft on a universal quick attach mount.

Do I need a down-rated load chart?

Yes, from your machine manufacturer, for the machine and attachment together. Telehandler capacity also falls as the boom extends, so work from the figures at your actual reach.
