The wide flange rim is the design point, giving a server somewhere to hold and a kitchen somewhere to wipe before the bowl leaves the pass. Thirty-two ounces comes close to three times the eleven ounce fill of the PT-314. The flange adds width without adding fill, so a thirty-two ounce serving still reads as a plated course.
