This is the middle oval in Nessico's three-bowl run, and the step from 36 to 48 ounces is mostly depth: a 2-1/2 inch wall instead of 2-1/4, on a footprint that grows by three quarters of an inch. That extra wall is what lets it hold a brothy dish - a noodle soup, a stew over rice - without a shallow profile working against the server.

In white it reads as service ware rather than canteen ware, which is how a lot of casual restaurants use it: pasta leaving the kitchen in the bowl it was finished in.
