Four straight edges and softened corners give this bread and butter plate a rim that changes character as it goes round: the long back edge sits nearly flat while the short front edge lifts more steeply. Glaze travels toward the corners as it fires, so the blue sits deep at the four points and pales along the straight runs.
On something this small that pattern is plain to see, and against a pale roll or a wrapped butter pat the darker corner line frames the food without any printed border. The glazed face is smooth right into the angles, so crumbs come off this bread and butter plate in one wipe.
