White Ruffled Blackout Nursery Curtains

White is the color everyone assumes can't do blackout. Hold most white panels up to a window and you can watch the sun come straight through the weave — which is why so many white nurseries end up with one grey curtain that matches nothing else in the room.

These don't make you choose. The blackout layer is sewn into the middle, sandwiched between our classic white cotton face and our standard drapery lining, so the room goes dark at six in the morning in June while the panel still reads as white from the inside and from the street. Cut and sewn by hand in our Alabama studio from 100% washed cotton, with a ruffle running down the leading edge of each panel — drawn closed, the pair makes one soft seam down the center of the window.

• White vs. Ivory: White is a true classic standard bright white with no cream in it, and holds its own against white trim and white walls; Ivory is warmer and sits more softly beside natural wood
• Lengths are finished sizes — measure from the top of your rod down to the floor and choose the range that covers it
• Blackout is worth more in a nursery than it looks on paper: it's what lets a 6pm bedtime hold through a summer evening and a 5am sunrise
