Tatami Mat

Tatami mats are traditional Japanese flooring made from a dense rice straw core covered with woven soft rush straw. Meticulously crafted, they deliver long-lasting durability, breathable comfort, and an authentic feel that cheaper synthetic alternatives cannot match. Available in traditional Japanese room sizes as well as standard mattress sizes, they pair perfectly with futon mattresses and shikibutons for creating floor beds.

We offer our tatami mats in both Standard and Split models to best suit your needs. Standard models typically consist of one or two pieces, while Split models divide each standard panel in half, resulting in a two- or four-piece set. This split design makes the mats much easier to ship, store, and move, but once assembled, they maintain the exact same overall dimensions as the standard versions (please refer to the dimensions section for a detailed breakdown). If you require a custom number of panels or wish to purchase a single piece separately, please contact us directly.

• Versatile Sizing: Available in both traditional Japanese dimensions and standard US mattress sizes (Twin through California King).
• Authentic Materials: Constructed with a dense 100% rice straw core and a top layer of woven soft rush grass (Igusa). Tatami mats may slightly vary in color.
• Eco-Friendly: Crafted from sustainable, biodegradable materials.
• Backing Options: Available with either a non-woven fabric backing or a rush grass backing.
• Firm & Breathable: Provides a supportive, natural foundation that promotes airflow, making it ideal for floor sleeping.

• Natural Aroma: Releases a subtle, calming grassy scent typical of authentic tatami. The scent is typically strongest when the mat is first unpacked and gradually fades over a few days to several weeks, depending on ventilation and humidity.

As with all tatami, remember to remove your shoes before stepping on the mat to preserve its integrity and maintain its clean, welcoming feel.

⚠️ Tatami mats come with a patterned embossed fabric border.
