About this product

SW-Motech Skid Plate for the 2024+ Honda XL750 Transalp

The SW-MOTECH Engine Guard Skid Plate (MSS.01.070.10001/B) provides heavy-duty undercarriage and engine protection tailored specifically for the Honda XL750 Transalp. The factory Transalp leaves the exposed low-slung exhaust headers, oil filter, and lower crankcases vulnerable to direct rock strikes, gravel roost, and ground impacts during off-road exploration and BDR touring.

Constructed from heavy-duty 4mm-thick aluminum alloy on the bottom impact surface and 2.5mm aluminum on the lateral side walls, this skid plate is CNC-bent and robotically welded for structural rigidity. The modular mounting system bolts directly to factory frame mounting points without drilling, cutting, or permanent modifications. Rubber isolation dampers are integrated into the mounting brackets to absorb impact energy and reduce resonance and engine vibrations transferred into the chassis. Cutout vents maintain airflow around the engine casings and exhaust collector while providing access for routine maintenance.

Features:

  • 4mm Aluminum Construction: Heavy-gauge 4mm aluminum plate base shields the crankcase and exhaust headers against rock strikes, stumps, and bottoming out.

  • Wrap-Around Side Protection: Flared 2.5mm aluminum side plates protect exposed water pump components, oil filter, and lower engine casings.

  • Frame-Mounted Load Distribution: High-strength steel mounting brackets anchor directly to frame points to isolate engine cases from impact force.

  • Vibration-Damping Bushings: Integrated rubber shock dampers minimize harmonic vibration and mechanical engine noise.

  • Powder-Coated Finish: Durable black powder-coated finish provides corrosion and scratch resistance under harsh trail conditions.

  • Ventilation Ports: Precision-cut openings promote cooling airflow through the lower engine compartment and facilitate wash-out of mud and trail debris.

What's in the Box:

Fitment:

  • 2024–2026 – Honda XL750 Transalp

Fitment Notes:

  • Accessory Compatibility: Compatible with SW-MOTECH crash bars, OEM Honda crash bars, and SW-MOTECH centerstands.

  • Direct Bolt-On: Installs using standard garage tools with zero drilling, welding, or cutting required.

  • Frame Isolation vs. Engine Mounting: Many budget skid plates bolt directly into threaded holes on the bottom of the aluminum engine cases. When a direct hit occurs on a rock or log, that impact load is transferred straight into the engine block, which can crack the sump casting. SW-MOTECH engineers their steel mounting brackets to attach to frame rails and robust chassis mounting locations, utilizing rubber grommets to dissipate the shock before it reaches the crankcases.

  • Oil Change Maintenance: The skid plate features pre-cut access zones, but for a clean, mess-free oil filter and sump drain plug service on the Transalp, removing the four primary mounting bolts allows the entire aluminum shell to drop away in under two minutes. Use medium-strength blue STUCK NUTZ threadlocker on the bracket mounting bolts during reinstallation to prevent trail vibrations from loosening hardware over rough terrain.
