The feed dog is the toothed metal mechanism beneath your needle plate that grips and advances fabric through your serger with each stitch cycle. When the teeth become worn, bent, or damaged, your fabric may stop feeding evenly — resulting in uneven stitch length, fabric bunching, or the serger simply refusing to move material forward.
