Let’s face it, the factory retainer just can not stand up to the pressure of these high horsepower machines. Couple that horsepower with bigger tires and extreme riding conditions, something has to give right? The piece that often gives is the factory pinion bearing retainer, which in turn allows your pinion shaft and snorkel shaft (output shaft) to push away from each other.
