About this product
Aesthetic appeal is crucial in traditional Japanese cuisine, where tableware is as significant as the ingredients themselves. Unlike many other cuisines that favor a plain white canvas, Japanese chefs use a variety of plates, bowls, and utensils to elevate food presentation.
This small elevated plate, known as a "Kodai," is ideal for serving appetizers such as tsukidashi or otoshi in Japanese dining. Its unique pedestal design adds an elegant touch to any meal. You can mix and match various small plates and bowls to create a beautiful display for tapas-style servings.
The ceramic piece features a checkered design with a stunning green copper glaze, known as Oribe. Achieving this vivid green color requires a high level of craftsmanship, as it is created through oxidation firing at 1220°C. If the conditions are not precise, the glaze can turn brown or red, making this a testament to the artisan's skill.
