It is fired in Stoke-on-Trent, England from high-alumina vitrified china, the uncommonly hard-wearing plateware long reserved for hotels and fine restaurants. Fully glazed on pins for 360-degree coverage (those three tiny "beauty marks" are the sign of the craft), it resists chips and scratches and is oven safe to 580°F, so a cold plate won't shock a delicate sauce.
