About this product

Can-Am Maverick X3 ball joints fail at the snap ring, not the joint itself. Keller ball joints remove that failure point completely: the two-piece housing threads into the A-arm like a nut and bolt, so there is no clip to shear and nothing to pull out. Hardened 4340 chromoly, greaseable and rebuildable, and available as uppers, lowers, or a full front-end set.

This is Todd Keller's original threaded design, covering 64-inch and 72-inch X3 models from 2017 onward.

Key Features

  • 4340 hardened chromoly steel construction
  • Two-piece threaded design doesn't require a snap ring
  • Easily adjustable, rebuildable, and greaseable
  • Robust boot retaining ring prevents water intrusion
  • No A-arm modification required, unlike the Mega version
  • Sold as uppers, lowers, an upper and lower pair, or a set of four

Built To Solve: Maverick X3 Ball Joint Pull-Out and Snap Ring Failure

  • Snap ring shears and the joint separates from the A-arm under load
  • Clunking or knocking from the front end on rough ground and whoops
  • Visible play when the wheel is rocked top-to-bottom on a jack
  • Repeat OEM joint failures on an X3 running a lift or oversized tires
  • Torn boots admitting water and grit so the joint wears from the inside
  • Replacing the same joint often enough that it has become routine maintenance

Best For: Lifted and Big-Tire Can-Am Maverick X3 Builds

  • 64-inch and 72-inch X3 owners running larger tires or added lift
  • Riders who have already replaced OEM joints more than once
  • Desert and dune riders loading the front end hard on landings
  • X3 MAX owners carrying more weight through the front end
  • Anyone rebuilding a front end who wants to do it once

If your A-arms are already modified for oversized housings, or you are building for maximum strength and accept the extra install work, the Mega Keller version is the stronger option.

Specifications

  • Material: 4340 hardened chromoly steel

FAQ

Why do Maverick X3 ball joints pull out of the A-arm?

The factory joint is held in by a snap ring seated in a groove. Hard landings and the extra leverage of bigger tires can deform or shear that ring, and once it goes the joint has nothing holding it. Keller joints thread into the A-arm instead, so there is no clip to fail.

Do these fit both 64-inch and 72-inch X3 models?

Yes. Coverage spans both widths from 2017 onward, including MAX, Smart-Shox and the 2022+ trims. Check the fitment list above against your exact model.

Do I need uppers, lowers, or both?

They are sold separately so you can replace just what has failed. Uppers and lowers are different parts on the X3. If you are rebuilding a front end at high hours, the set of four covers two uppers and two lowers.

Do Keller ball joints require A-arm modification?

Standard Keller joints do not. The Mega Keller version uses an oversized housing and does require modified A-arms, which is the main reason to pick one over the other.

How are they installed?

They thread into the A-arm rather than pressing in behind a clip. Todd Keller demonstrates the process in the official SuperATV video linked below. Support the machine properly and allow time to grease and set them correctly.

Can I rebuild these instead of replacing them?

Yes, and that is the point of the design. They grease and adjust, and the Keller rebuild kit for Can-Am services the X3 joints when the internals eventually wear.

Why Keller

Todd Keller designed the two-piece threaded ball joint to fix the one part of a stock front end that keeps failing, and SuperATV now builds and backs the line. The design has barely changed because it does not need to: thread the housing in like a nut and bolt, use a chromoly stud, and make the whole assembly serviceable so a worn joint gets rebuilt rather than binned.

Complete Your Maverick X3 Front End Rebuild

Before ordering, confirm your width (64-inch or 72-inch), your model year, and whether you need uppers, lowers or both. If the joints are sound but the boots are torn, a boot replacement kit is the cheaper fix. If the joints are worn but the housings are good, the Keller rebuild kit for Can-Am services them. Riders doing a full front end usually check tie rods and A-arm bushings while everything is already apart.
