John Deere D Series / Hitachi ZX-3 Excavator Windshield Glass Replacement
If you're on this page, something already came through your windshield. The question isn't whether to replace it — it's whether to put the same glass back in and wait for it to happen again.
Factory glass is designed to break safely, not to survive what site work throws at a cab. This is the alternative. Same shape as your John Deere glass, same opening, same hardware, roughly 260 times the impact strength — and for most owners it's the last one they buy for that machine.
Will This John Deere Excavator Windshield Fit Your Machine?
1. Start with the glass number — this is the check that settles it. Look at the corner of your original panel for JD #T396392/4651653 (upper) / #T396635/4651654 (lower) | Hitachi #T396392 (upper) / #T396635 (lower). If it matches, you're on the right page whatever the decal says.
2. Note the fitment detail below before you order.
Have these to hand before you order. The options above ask for glass number, what is the serial number. They are all on the machine, and answering them accurately is what gets the right panel to your door first time.

Manufacturers build variants off the same platforms and those usually share the cab. Check the number on your glass — if it matches, the panel fits whatever the decal says.
John Deere Windshield Thickness Guide — Which Should You Buy?
This is the real decision on this page, and it's about what the machine does — not how careful the operator is.
1/4"General duty Matches your OEM glass exactly. Fine for trenching, utility work and general site duty. It won't shatter the way glass does, but it isn't an impact panel. 3/8"
Mid-weight A real step up in impact resistance. Clearing work, grapple work, anything with debris in the air. 1/2"
WE RECOMMEND Our recommendation. Demolition, hammer work and shear work — this is the grade that survives the kind of strike that broke the last one.
Not sure between two? Take the thicker. The price difference is small next to a day with the machine parked, and going up a grade costs nothing in fitment — a 1/2" panel seats in the opening exactly like a 1/4" one.
"Won't a thicker panel scratch?" It's the fair objection, and it's why we post-apply SUPERCOAT™ to both faces after forming rather than co-extruding it. Take steel wool to the surface and it wipes clean.

The panel drops into the factory opening and reuses your existing frame, gasket and mounting hardware. No drilling, no shimming, no trimming.
One thing worth doing while the old panel is out: look at the gasket. If it has hardened, cracked or taken a permanent set around the old glass, replace it before the new panel goes in. A tired gasket is the most common cause of a leak on an otherwise perfect install, and your dealer stocks them.

John Deere Windshield Warranty, Returns and Delivery
Ten-year warranty against manufacturing defects — breakage, coating failure, excessive haze and excessive yellowing. Scratching from use isn't covered, and nobody should tell you otherwise.
Returns. If the panel arrives defective, or we send the wrong part, we put it right at our cost. If you simply change your mind, the panel can be returned subject to a 25% restocking fee. That's the whole policy — no small print.
Open the carton before the driver leaves. Look the panel over, and if anything is damaged, write it on the carrier receipt before you sign. Photograph the packaging and the panel and send us the photos within 7 days — inside that window we replace it at our cost, no argument. Past it, the carrier won't accept the claim.
John Deere D Series / Hitachi ZX-3 Excavator Windshield — Questions
Which number should I be checking on my glass?
The number stamped in the corner of your original panel. This listing replaces JD #T396392/4651653 (upper) / #T396635/4651654 (lower) | Hitachi #T396392 (upper) / #T396635 (lower). Manufacturers reuse cab designs across model years and series, so the number is more reliable than the badge on the machine.
Do I need one panel or more than one?
They are ordered separately — this listing covers upper + lower. Check which one broke before ordering, and if more than one went, place an order for each.
Can I fit this myself, or does it need a shop?
It's a mechanical install — the panel drops into the factory opening and your existing frame, gasket and hardware go back on. No drilling or trimming. A second pair of hands makes seating it easier.
Do I need to replace the gasket?
Not always, but inspect it while the old panel is out. If it's hardened, cracked or has taken a permanent set, replace it before fitting — a tired gasket is the usual cause of a leak after an otherwise correct install. Your dealer stocks them.
Why are you asking for my serial number?
Because this cab changed partway through production. The serial tells us which version you have, and it is the difference between a panel that seats and one that doesn't. It's on the plate inside the cab.
Will a 1/2" panel still fit my cab?
Yes. We mill the perimeter back to OEM glass thickness, so the thicker panel seats in the opening exactly as the original did.
How do I clean a Lexan polycarbonate windshield?
Mild soap and water with a soft cloth, then dry it off. Avoid abrasive cleaners, squeegees and power washers — those mar the coating, and coating damage from the wrong cleaner isn't a warranty claim. The care sheet lists approved products.
Will it fog or go yellow?
Yellowing is slow and UV-driven, which is why the warranty names excessive yellowing specifically. For fogging, treat it as you would glass — keep the cab vented and the panel clean.
Ready to order?
Confirm your glass number, answer the options above and pick your thickness — then add it to the cart. Backed by a 10-year warranty and free replacement for freight damage.
