About this product
The Hasami Porcelain Plate in Black is a blend of crushed Amakusa pottery stone and clay under a matte black glaze, with a bare band at the rim where the raw clay is left exposed as a contrast. Black is the finish that changes most with use, developing a patina from oils that gives parts of the glaze a faint metallic shine over time. Takuhiro Shinomoto designed it in Venice, California, and it is made in Hasami, Nagasaki, where porcelain has been produced for four centuries.
Six sizes, from 3 3/8 to 11 7/8 inches, and each shares its diameter with the rest of the line, so a plate sits on the matching bowl as a lid or under a teapot as a trivet. The edges are formed to stack without rocking.
