# Organic Zipper Romper
Print: Farm Friends
Size: 9-12m, 12-18m, 18-24m
Brand: L'ovedbaby
Category: Clothing > Rompers
Age: 9-12m, 12-18m, 18-24m
The Organic Zipper Romper is a one-piece romper for babies sized 9-12 months through 18-24 months. The 2-way zipper opens from the neck down for dressing and from the ankle up for diaper changes, and small pockets add a playful detail to the design.
It is made of GOTS-certified organic cotton with azo-free, non-toxic, eco-friendly dyes, and is ethically made in India. The romper is tagless for comfort against baby's skin and is machine washable, with care instructions to wash warm and tumble dry low.
The fit is designed to be form-fitting and true to weight, and the romper is cut slightly long to allow for shrinkage after the first machine wash and dry. Line drying is recommended to preserve the pre-wash length.

## TrustScore: 92/100
TrustScore is Birch's proprietary rating, from 0 to 100, built from 50+ signals that reflect what actually matters to parents — safety, materials, recalls, certifications and quality. We don't take paid placements or sponsored rankings, so a score is never influenced by who pays to be seen.
This product's TrustScore: 92/100, weighted across 10 criteria.
- Fiber Content & Origin: 92/100. The composition is exact — 100% organic cotton with no synthetic blend — and the organic status carries a named standard, GOTS, rather than a marketing word. Provenance is given: cotton grown in India and garments sewn there, and retailers carrying the line list the same 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton composition. The specific farm group and spinning mill are not published.
- Construction & Fastener Safety: 91/100. The design avoids the usual hazards for a mouthing-age child: a two-way zipper instead of a row of snaps, deliberately tiny zipper tabs at the neck and ankle as an added safety measure, a tagless interior, and no cords, ties or appliqués — the only extras are sewn-in chest and back pockets. Across 71 reviews none report a detached fastener, split seam or failed zipper, and several report garments passing down to a third child. Pull-test or small-parts test results for the zipper pull are not published.
- Dye Safety: 92/100. The dyes on this romper are azo-free, with no azo dyes that release carcinogenic amine compounds, and only GOTS-certified dyes are used — a named standard applied to the colourant itself, not just to the fibre. The base fabric is 100% cotton rather than a synthetic, so disperse dyes are not in play. No dye test report or certificate number is published.
- Textile Certification: 92/100. This is a finished-garment GOTS claim rather than a "made with organic cotton" fibre claim: the romper is GOTS-certified 100% organic cotton, and the certification covers every step from farm to mill to finished garment, extending to dyes, trims and even packaging. No certificate number is published for the garment.
- Recall History: 97/100. We queried the complete CPSC recall corpus — 9,944 records spanning June 1973 to August 2026 — and L'ovedbaby appears nowhere in it, in any role, at any date. The same corpus returns hundreds of hits for other children's product classes such as cribs, strollers and toys, so the clean result reflects the brand's absence rather than a query that missed.
- Certification Credibility: 92/100. GOTS certification is asserted for the finished garment rather than the fibre alone: the cotton, dyes, trims and snaps/zippers are all GOTS-certified, sewing happens in GOTS-certified factories in India, and the prohibitions are named — no toxic heavy metals, formaldehyde, aromatic solvents, GMOs, PVC, nickel or chrome in trims. No certificate or licence number is published alongside those claims.
- Chemical Finish Avoidance: 91/100. Nothing about this romper is marketed as easy-care, wrinkle-resistant, non-iron, stain-resistant or water-repellent; care is simply machine wash warm and tumble dry low. Under the GOTS certification carried by these garments, formaldehyde, aromatic solvents and functional nanoparticles are excluded, and no chemical flame retardants or chemical softeners are applied — the cotton's weight alone meets CPSC flammability requirements for daywear.
- Pre-Wash & Care Guidance: 88/100. Care instructions travel with the romper — machine wash warm, tumble dry low — alongside detailed first-wash guidance: the garment is cut long because the cotton shrinks in the first machine wash and dry, and line drying keeps the pre-wash length. Retailers carry the same shrinkage and drying advice with no conflict. There is no instruction to wash the garment before first wear.
- Transparency & Support: 90/100. Disclosure is unusually complete for an apparel brand: 100% organic cotton composition, cotton sourced and garments sewn in India, and trim and snap chemistry. The individual factory or manufacturing partner is not named.
- Hardware & Print Safety: 91/100. The zippers and snaps are lead-free, chrome-free and nickel-free, trims fall under GOTS rules that permit no PVC, nickel or chrome, and the dyes are azo-free with no azo dyes that release carcinogenic amine compounds. The romper is tagless and its only hardware is a two-way zipper with deliberately tiny tabs at neck and ankle rather than decorative metal or plastic pieces. The printing method used for the character and animal prints is not named anywhere.
## Certifications
- GOTS Certified Organic (issued by Global Organic Textile Standard). GOTS certification verifies that a textile product's organic fibre content and its full processing supply chain meet defined organic, environmental and social criteria. Not covered: This certification addresses organic fibre content, processing chemicals and supply-chain conditions; it is not a general product safety, flammability, or choking-hazard test.
These certifications are held by the brand or manufacturer, not by Birch. We show them because the brand states them for this product.

### L'ovedbaby Fit
- L'ovedbaby's organic baby clothing is quite true to weight, and is designed to be form-fitting and tailored to the body. Since cotton shrinks after the first machine wash/dry, L'ovedbaby accounts for this shrinkage by cutting its clothing slightly longer than intended, so that they shrink down to the correct size. This applies to L'ovedbaby's kids and adult clothing as well. As such, L'ovedbaby does not recommend sizing up unless the wearer is extremely tall/large for his or her size. If you find that you like the length of the garment prior to washing it, L'ovedbaby recommends line drying to retain that length. Otherwise, feel free to pop it in the dryer to shrink it down slightly to its intended fit.
### Preemie/Newborn versus 0-3m:
- L'ovedbaby's preemie/newborn size is intended for 4-7 pound babies, and fits quite accurately and is perfect for a full-term baby who weighs approximately 7-8 lbs at birth, or for twins or smaller babies. L'ovedbaby's 0-3 months size is intended for 7 to 12 lbs. and while definitely longer and roomier than the newborn size, it still offers a nice and comfortable fit for a brand new baby.
- L'ovedbaby recommends getting both sizes as the preemie/newborn size is perfect for a take-me-home and for newborn photos. You'll love it!
