📘 Overview

The Star Industries XD is an extreme duty skid steer bucket built for compact track loaders and severe-duty work, where a standard bucket wears out rather than breaks. The shell is 25 percent heavier than the standard heavy-duty bucket, the heel plate and wear bars are AR400 abrasion-resistant steel, and the cutting edge is almost 80 percent heavier. The quick-tach is reinforced to match. Four widths cover 72, 78, 84 and 96 inches holding 18.2 to 24.2 cubic feet heaped, and the shell is rolled rather than folded so it cleans out easily.

⚙ Key Features of the Star Industries XD Extreme Duty Bucket

  • Four widths: 72, 78, 84 and 96 in, holding 18.2 to 24.2 cu ft heaped
  • 25 percent heavier shell, AR400 heel plate and AR400 wear bars
  • Cutting edge almost 80 percent heavier than the standard bucket, with a reinforced quick-tach
  • Rolled shell for easy clean out — a severe duty bucket and track loader bucket in one
  • An ar400 bucket built as a rock bucket skid steer and compact track loader machines can work daily
  • Extra heavy-duty steel with seams continuously welded inside and outside the shell
  • Reinforced hat section provides strength across the entire top of the bucket
  • Steel side blades strengthen and protect the bucket sides
  • Beveled hard carbon steel punched blade on the leading edge
  • Heavy 1/2 in x 3 in scuff bars reinforce the bucket bottom, three to five depending on width
  • Integrated safety step
  • 3/8 in plate universal quick-tach built for higher-powered current skid steer loaders
  • Bottom set close to the ground for level back-dragging

🔑 Why Buyers Choose the Star Industries XD Extreme Duty Bucket

  • AR400 is where the wear actually happens — the heel plate and wear bars are abrasion-resistant plate rather than mild steel, and those are the two surfaces that fail first on a track loader working rock and demolition debris.
  • A 25 percent heavier shell survives what tracks can push — compact track loaders put far more sustained down-pressure through a bucket than a wheeled skid steer, and a standard shell flexes under it.
  • An almost 80 percent heavier cutting edge — the edge is the part that turns a bucket into scrap, and on the XD it is nearly twice the section of the standard bucket.
  • The rolled shell cleans out instead of packing — clay and wet spoil wedge into the corner of a folded bucket. A rolled shell has no corner to pack into, which matters every load in sticky material.
  • 96 inches is available where the standard range stops at 84 — the XD-96 at 24.2 cu ft suits the largest track loaders, which can carry a heavy bucket full without unloading the rear.

🔗 Teeth, Blades and Side Cutters for the XD

The XD already carries an almost 80 percent heavier cutting edge than a standard bucket, so the edge options here are about extending an already-heavy edge rather than compensating for a light one. Bolt-on teeth add the suffix T and are pin-on series 23 teeth measuring 2 1/4 in across the point, counted by width — 7 at 60 in, 8 at 66 and 72 in, 9 at 78 in, 10 at 84 in. A bolt-on blade adds the suffix BOB: a reversible 5/8 in x 8 in double-bevel blade with fasteners, ordered as BOB60 through BOB84. Side cutters, part LP-SC, are a pair. Replacement tooth PBTA8023, shank adapter PBT1001 and flex pin PBTRP are sold individually.

❓ Star Industries XD Extreme Duty Bucket Questions, Answered

What makes the XD an extreme duty bucket?

Four things, all in the parts that wear. The Star Industries XD has a 25 percent heavier bucket shell than the standard heavy-duty bucket, an AR400 heel plate, AR400 wear bars, and a cutting edge almost 80 percent heavier. The quick-tach is reinforced to suit.

Do I need an extreme duty bucket for a compact track loader?

It is the bucket Star designs for them. A compact track loader applies more sustained down-pressure than a wheeled skid steer of the same class, so the shell and edge take a harder life. The XD is built for that, and is also the right choice for severe-duty work on a wheeled machine.

What is AR400 steel and why does it matter here?

AR400 is abrasion-resistant plate, considerably harder than the mild steel used for a bucket shell. On the XD it is used for the heel plate and the wear bars — the two surfaces that contact the ground under load and wear out first on rock, demolition debris and abrasive spoil.

Which XD width should I choose?

The XD comes in 72, 78, 84 and 96 inch widths holding 18.2, 18.7, 21.2 and 24.2 cu ft heaped. Note that XD widths are quoted as outside dimensions: an XD-72 measures 72 inches outside and 70 1/2 inches inside. Choose a width at least as wide as your tracks.

Why is the XD shell rolled instead of folded?

A rolled shell has no sharp internal corner for clay or wet spoil to pack into, so the bucket empties cleanly load after load. On a folded shell that corner is where material builds up and effective capacity falls away during a shift.

Can the XD take a bolt-on blade?

Yes, the bolt-on blade is optional on the XD. It is a reversible 5/8 in x 8 in double-bevel blade supplied with fasteners and ordered by width. Given the XD already carries an almost 80 percent heavier cutting edge, the blade is worth adding mainly where the material is genuinely abrasive.

Are side cutters available for the XD?

Yes. XD side cutters, part XD-SC, are sold as a pair with fasteners and are specific to the XD bucket — the LP-SC cutters used on the standard buckets are a different part. Side cutters protect the corners, which take the first contact when working against a face or wall.

How is the XD different from a skeleton bucket?

An XD is a solid bucket that carries everything it picks up. A skeleton bucket has a ribbed bottom that lets material under 2 1/2 inches fall through, so it separates rock and debris from soil. Choose the XD for moving material and the 150 series skeleton bucket for sorting it.

Are Star skid steer buckets universal, or built to my machine?

Both apply. The mount is the standard universal quick attach coupler, so it fits any skid steer or compact track loader using that interface. Star also notes that different loaders need different bucket profiles to work properly, and builds each bucket to suit your specific make and model. Enter your machine make and model at checkout.

How do I order the XD and how is it shipped?

Add the bucket to your cart on eskidsteer.com and complete checkout online, entering your machine make and model on the order page. Shipping is calculated at checkout once you enter your delivery address.
