About this product

Genuine Digga auger bit Includes pin, clip, teeth and pilot

Overview

The Digga RC4 is a taper tooth auger bit for skid steer — one bit for earth, clay and fracturable rock, rather than two bits for two jobs. It runs a 2 inch hex hub, suits Digga 1MDS through 4DSS drives, and is sold here in twelve diameters from 6 to 36 inches on a 2 inch hex hub. Every bit comes with its pin, clip, teeth and pilot fitted.

Key Features of the Digga RC4 Auger Bit

  • Combination rock and earth — the condition Digga builds this bit for
  • 2 inch hex hub
  • 48 in overall length on a 2.375 - 4.5 in pipe
  • Flights 5/16 in lead and 5/16 in carry
  • TTD double tungsten outer, TTS single taper inner, with the PM-HX-3 hex drive pilot
  • Maximum diameter 48 in in the Digga range
  • Suits 1MDS through 4DSS drives
  • True Cut design — Digga builds these bits so a 12 inch auger drills a 12 inch hole rather than an oversized one
  • Supplied complete with pin, clip, teeth and pilot

Optimum Drilling Speed for the RC4

Ground Drill speed (RPM) Earth 55-65 Clay 45-55 Shale / fracturable rock 20-45 Heavy rock Not suited

Digga publishes these speeds because running a bit too fast in hard ground wears teeth without cutting. If your drive has a two-speed shift, this table is what the low range is for.

Which Drives Fit the RC4?

Fitment is set by the hub, not the machine. The RC4 has a 2 inch hex hub, which matches the output shaft on Digga 1MDS through 4DSS drives. Where a drive and bit do not match, auger adapters convert between hub sizes, and auger extensions add depth below the bit.

Where the RC4 Sits Against Digga's Other Bits

  • The RC4 is the all-rounder — taper teeth cut a clean hole in soft ground and rip fracturable rock, so one bit covers what would otherwise need two.
  • An earth bit costs less (A4) and cuts just as well if you only ever drill soil.
  • A dedicated rock auger (DR6) is the better tool where the ground is hard rock rather than mixed.

On delivery: check the bit before you sign, and note any damage on the delivery receipt at the time of delivery. Photograph anything that looks wrong and email support@eskidsteer.com.

Digga RC4 Auger Bit Questions, Answered

What size RC4 do I need?

Match the diameter to the hole, not to the drive — then check the drive can turn it. Digga rates each drive to a maximum diameter in earth and a smaller one in clay or shale, and those figures are on the drive listings. The RC4 is offered in twelve diameters from 6 to 36 inches.

Why choose the RC4 over an earth bit?

Taper teeth cut a clean hole in soft ground and still rip fracturable rock, so one bit covers conditions that would otherwise need two. If you only ever drill soil, an earth bit costs less and cuts just as well.

Will the RC4 fit my auger drive?

If your drive has a 2 inch hex output shaft, yes — that covers Digga 1MDS through 4DSS. For a different shaft, auger adapters step between hub sizes, though an adapter adds length and a joint, so a matched hub is better where you have the choice.

Are teeth and pilot included?

Yes. Every Digga bit ships with pin, clip, teeth and pilot fitted. Teeth and pilots are wear parts, so they are also sold separately — for this bit, the ttd double tungsten outer and the PM-HX-3 hex drive pilot.

How deep can I drill?

The RC4 is 48 in overall, and the drive adds its own length above it. To go deeper, auger extensions fit between the drive and the bit. Two shorter extensions are usually more practical than one long one, because the whole stack has to be lifted clear of the hole.

When do teeth need changing?

When the cutting edge has worn back and the bit slows or starts wandering. Replacing teeth is far cheaper than wearing into the pockets or the flights, which are the expensive parts of the bit.

How is shipping calculated?

Shipping is calculated at checkout from the weight of your order and your delivery address, and the charge is shown before you complete the order.
