About this product

Key Features

Dial In the Speed
This cordless random orbital sander runs from 8,000 to 12,000 OPM on a thumb-reachable dial, so you can slow down for finish passes and speed up for stock removal without changing tools.
Low Profile, Better Control
The low-profile head keeps your hand close to the work, which makes the pad easier to keep flat on panels, edges and vertical surfaces.
Bag or Extractor
A one-handed locking dust bag handles quick jobs, and the same port connects directly to DEWALT dust extractors when you want cleaner work indoors.

Overview

The DeWALT DCW210B 20V MAX XR Brushless 5" Cordless Sander is a battery-powered finish sander for woodworkers, finish carpenters, remodelers and serious DIYers. This is a random orbital sander designed for smoothing wood, blending joints, knocking down filler and prepping surfaces for paint or stain without dragging a cord across the work. Model Number DCW210B is sold as a bare tool with a dust bag, so it fits best in a shop that already runs DEWALT 20V MAX batteries.

The brushless motor is the reason this sander makes sense as a cordless tool. It turns battery energy into pad motion more efficiently than a brushed motor, which means more sanding per charge and less heat in the housing during long sessions. The variable-speed dial covers 8,000 to 12,000 orbits per minute. Run it low on veneer, thin edges and between coats of finish, then turn it up when you are leveling glue lines or working through coarse grits on solid stock. Compared with the 1/4-sheet palm models among DEWALT sanders, the random orbit pattern removes material faster and is less likely to leave straight-line scratches across the grain.

DEWALT kept the body short and low. On a random orbit sander, height is the enemy of control: a tall tool wants to rock, and a rocking pad leaves gouges and rounded edges. With your palm close to the pad, it is easier to keep the disc flat on cabinet doors, face frames and wall panels. Texturized rubber overmold on the grip helps when you are sanding overhead or holding the tool against a vertical surface for a while. It weighs about 1.9 lbs without the battery and dust bag, or 2.1 lbs with the bag attached.

Sanding dust is hard on electronics, so the switch is dust-sealed to keep fine particles out and extend switch life. The 5" (127 mm) pad uses an 8-hole hook-and-loop face for fast disc changes, and the pad itself is replaceable, so a worn face does not retire the sander. Standard 5" 8-hole hook-and-loop sanding discs line up with the pad holes for extraction.

Dust control is set up two ways. The included one-handed locking dust bag uses DEWALT's AirLock connection and handles punch-list work and quick touch-ups away from a vacuum. For cleaner sanding in occupied homes or a finish room, the port connects directly to the DWV010 dust extractor. Other vacuums with 1-1/4" hoses connect through the DWV9000 Universal Quick Connector.

The DCW210B runs on any DEWALT 20V MAX battery. A compact 2.0Ah pack keeps the tool light for overhead and vertical work, while a larger pack gives you more run time on big surfaces. If you are not on the platform yet, budget for a battery and charger, since neither is in the box.

Who should buy it? Trim carpenters doing punch-out, cabinet installers touching up on site, painters prepping doors and trim, and woodworkers who want a 5" sander they can carry around a project instead of tethering to an outlet. If you already own DEWALT 20V MAX batteries, this is an easy add.

Sand Where the Cord Won't Reach

Going cordless means no extension cord dragging across fresh finish or catching on the edge of the workpiece. Pick it up, sand, and move to the next part.

  • Runs on DEWALT 20V MAX batteries (sold separately)
  • Brushless motor for efficient run time
  • About 1.9 lbs without battery and dust bag

Built to Keep Dust Out

Fine sanding dust kills switches and wears out bearings. A sealed switch and an attached collection bag keep the tool working longer and the shop cleaner.

  • Dust-sealed switch for longer switch life
  • One-handed locking AirLock dust bag included
  • Replaceable 8-hole hook-and-loop pad

Set the pad on the work before you pull the trigger and lift it off only after it stops. Starting a random orbit sander in the air is the fastest way to put swirl marks in a surface you just leveled.
