About this product

  • Ideal for Naturally Aspirated and Daily Driving
  • Compatible for Gravity, Stage 1, and Stage 2 Clutches
  • One Piece Design
  • Preserves Low End Torque & Driveability
  • The 11 lb Sweet Spot for K-Series Performance

The Competition Clutch 2-800-ST delivers what K20 and K24 enthusiasts actually want: faster revs and sharper throttle response without sacrificing daily drivability. At 11 lbs versus the 16 lb stock flywheel, you get 31% less rotational mass. That's enough to feel the difference immediately without the chatter and stalling headaches of ultra-light 8 lb alternatives.

Built from one-piece 4140 forged steel and CNC machined to OE specifications, this flywheel handles high-heat track sessions and thousands of daily-driven miles. The integrated ring gear eliminates the failure point of OEM two-piece units, and the Blanchard-ground friction surface provides consistent clutch engagement from cold start to hot laps.

Why the K-series community recommends this weight

Benefit What it means for you Preserves low-end torque Smooth takeoffs in traffic. No stalling at lights or lurching through parking lots like you'll get with ultra-light race flywheels. Faster rev drop Revs fall quicker between shifts, making heel-toe downshifts feel clean and predictable. Your K20 finally revs like it should. No drone or chatter at idle The number-one complaint with aluminum flywheels doesn't exist here. 11 lbs of forged steel keeps things civilized. SFI 1.5 certified Meets the requirement for sanctioned track events, HPDE, and time attack. Not just a street piece. Works with any clutch disc type Organic, ceramic, and multi-puck setups all engage cleanly on the Blanchard-ground surface.

    What's Included

Item Included Competition Clutch 2-800-ST Light Steel Flywheel Yes (1x) Flywheel bolts (use OEM Honda 90019-PCY-000, torque to 76 ft-lbs) Not included

    Installation Notes

Professional installation recommended. Typical labor time is 4-6 hours. While the transmission is out, it's worth replacing your rear main seal and pilot bearing. You don't want to pull the trans again for a $12 seal. Break in the new clutch and flywheel with 500-700 miles of moderate driving before any aggressive use.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How much lighter is this than stock?

The 2-800-ST weighs 11 lbs compared to the OEM RSX Type-S flywheel at roughly 16 lbs. That's a 31% reduction in rotational mass. It's the range where you'll notice significantly faster revs without giving up the smooth idle and easy takeoffs you need for daily driving.

Will this flywheel cause clutch chatter?

At 11 lbs, this sits in the community-proven sweet spot. Ultra-light 8 lb aluminum flywheels are the ones notorious for chatter and rattle at idle. The forged steel construction and moderate weight keep engagement smooth. Most owners report zero chatter issues, even with Stage 2 clutches.

What's the best clutch to pair with it?

For daily driving under 300 whp, the Exedy Stage 1 organic is the most popular pairing in the K-series world. Smooth pedal, long life, and no drama. If you're pushing more power or doing regular track days, the Competition Clutch Stage 2 is the move. Always use an RSX Type-S pressure plate.

Does this work with K24 engines?

Yes. The 2-800-ST fits K24A1, K24A2, K24A4, and K24A8 engines when used with a 6-speed transmission. That covers the TSX, Accord, Element, and K24-swapped cars.

Will a lightweight flywheel throw a check engine light on my 2012+ Civic Si?

On 2012-2015 Civic Si, 2009-2014 TSX, and 2013-2017 Accord models, the sensitive crank position sensor can read lighter flywheel vibration as misfires. The fix is simple: use Hondata FlashPro or KTuner to disable the misfire detection threshold. This is a well-known tuning step for any lightweight flywheel on these platforms.

    What's the break-in procedure?

Competition Clutch recommends 500-700 miles of easy driving before you start beating on it. No hard launches, no high-RPM clutch dumps, no aggressive rev-matching during that window. After break-in, clutch feel smooths out noticeably and you're good to go.

If you're building a responsive street car, a track toy, or a dual-duty K car, this is the flywheel that splits the difference perfectly. Way quicker to rev than stock, far tougher than most aluminum options, and still completely livable in traffic. We run this exact setup on our own K-swapped project cars for that reason.

  • Material and Construction

Competition Clutch makes the 2-800-ST from 4140 forged steel, formed in a single piece. The forging process uses approximately 2,000 tons of pressure at around 1,260°F, which produces a denser grain structure than cast or billet alternatives. The result is a flywheel that resists cracking under repeated heat cycling, something that matters if you're running track days between commutes.

The one-piece construction extends to the ring gear. OEM flywheels use a separate ring gear pressed onto the flywheel body. That joint is a known failure point under hard use. Competition Clutch integrates the ring gear into the main forging, eliminating that separation risk entirely.

After forging, the flywheel is CNC machined and balanced to OE specifications.

    Weight

Competition Clutch lists the 2-800-ST at 11.5 lbs across most authorized retailer channels. If you need a confirmed figure for your build sheet, contact Competition Clutch directly before ordering, as retailer-cited weights vary slightly by source.

For context, an ultra-lightweight variant also exists: the 2-800-STU, which retailers rate at approximately 8 to 8.8 lbs. That one is aimed squarely at competition use where low-end drivability is not a priority. The 2-800-ST is the street-and-track middle ground.

    SFI Certification

At least one authorized Competition Clutch retailer states the 2-800-ST exceeds SFI 1.5 specifications. If SFI certification is a requirement for a specific sanctioning body or event, confirm the current certification status directly with Competition Clutch before purchasing.

    Resurfaceability

The friction surface can be resurfaced when worn. The correct flywheel step specification is not freely published; you'll need to pull it from the Competition Clutch catalog or contact Competition Clutch directly before any machine work.

    Application Notes

Competition Clutch designates the ST suffix for naturally aspirated and street-driven applications. It pairs with their Stage 1 and Stage 2 clutch kits per manufacturer positioning. If you're running forced induction or serious power, talk to Competition Clutch about whether a higher-stage clutch system is appropriate.

    K24 fitment (K24A1, K24A2, K24A4) requires a 6-speed transmission. Confirm your transmission before ordering if you're fitting this to a K24-powered car.

    • Competition Clutch 2-800-ST Light Steel Flywheel (1x)

Flywheel bolts are not included. Use OEM Honda flywheel bolts. Clutch kit, pressure plate, pilot bearing, and rear main seal are also not included.

  • What's Involved

Installing this flywheel means pulling the transmission. On a Civic or RSX, that's typically a 4 to 6 hour job in a home garage with a lift or jack stands, longer if you haven't done it before. You'll need standard metric hand tools, a torque wrench, and a flywheel locking tool to keep the crank from rotating while you torque the flywheel bolts. A transmission jack makes the job significantly easier and safer.

    While You're In There

With the transmission out, replace the rear main seal and the transmission input shaft seal if you haven't recently. Both are inexpensive parts with expensive labor to access. The pilot bearing is worth doing at the same time. Don't skip these and then pull the trans again six months later for a seal that costs less than your lunch.

    Clutch Compatibility

Confirm your pressure plate is compatible before you order. For RSX and Civic Si applications, use an RSX Type-S pressure plate. If you're unsure what you have or what pairs correctly with your power level, reach out before ordering so you're not pulling the transmission twice.

    Break-In

After installation, Competition Clutch recommends 500 to 700 miles of moderate driving before any aggressive use. No hard launches, no high-RPM clutch dumps, no aggressive rev-matching during that window. After break-in, clutch feel settles in and you're good to drive it the way you built it for.

    Crank Position Sensor Note

If you're fitting a lightweight flywheel to a later K-series platform, be aware that some models can trigger crank position sensor or misfire-related check engine lights due to the changed rotational characteristics. This is a known issue on certain applications. An ECU tune via Hondata FlashPro or KTuner resolves it. The fitments listed for this product cover the 2002 to 2011 Civic and 2002 to 2006 RSX, but if you're doing a K-swap into a later chassis, factor this in.
