Apple Fiber Studio Cortland – Suri Alpaca & Silk Lace Yarn

Some yarns feel like a whisper. Cortland is one of them.

Micro-brewed in Bellingham. Cortland is dyed in small batches by our lead dyer, Andrea, and finished by hand by our Apple Yarns team. This exquisite lace weight yarn blends 74% suri alpaca with 26% silk for a fiber experience unlike anything else. Suri alpaca, affectionately known as the "silky" breed, produces a fiber with a gentle, luminous halo that's more substantial than mohair yet impossibly soft. Paired with silk, the result is a yarn that catches the light, drapes beautifully, and feels like air against your skin.

What Makes Cortland Special

  • Featherlight lace weight, perfect for shawls, wraps, and delicate accessories
  • Luminous halo adds soft color and texture to any project
  • Stunning on its own; adds magic when held with another yarn
  • Hand-dyed in small batches for rich, tonal color depth
  • Silk content adds sheen, drape, and a silky-smooth hand

Perfect Pairings

Cortland is our favorite companion yarn. Hold it together with McIntosh (merino, alpaca, and nylon) or Empire (merino and silk) for a soft, haloed fabric that's perfect for sweaters, cardigans, and capes. Choose a matching color for a rich, tonal look, or a contrast for a gentle blend. Swatch first to find your gauge.

Tips for Working with Hand-Dyed Yarn

Each skein is hand-dyed and may vary slightly from skein to skein. When using multiple skeins in one project, alternate skeins every few rows to blend any color variation seamlessly.

Whether you're knitting a gossamer shawl or adding a halo to your next sweater, Cortland delivers an experience as beautiful as the finished piece. Browse all of Apple Fiber Studio, and we'll wind your skeins for free.
